Like many nonprofits in our area, our museum is feeling a financial pinch. A grant that we had anticipated did not materialize, therefor leaving us with a lack of funds.
Two years ago we had to start paying rent to Wenatchee River Institute for our space in the River Haus. Because we never had to pay rent before it wasn’t anticipated or budgeted, and frankly, caught us by surprise. In order to pay our rent, which is based on square footage, we had to give up some of our space, which included our gift store and our Coordinators office.
We’ve done a good job in introducing new programs such as our monthly summertime walking City Tours, the Heritage Programs that are held the third Thursday evening of the month and pertain to the Upper Valley, and partnering with the Icicle Inn on the Wellington Tours during the months of June, July and August. These programs have all produced additional revenue for the museum, but not enough to cover the additional rent costs.
We have received a grant that is dedicated to tell the story of Bob Rodgers and Ted Price
and another grant to proceed with the Oral History Project. Both of these projects are well under way and will be ongoing through the remainder of the year.
One of our biggest fund raisers is our Annual Tea. This year it will be held in October at the Grange here in Leavenworth.
We want to be able to keep the museum open 4 days a week, as it is now. Statistics show that we have on an average about the same amount of visitors each of the days, Thursday through Sunday, even in the winter. It would not be our choice to reduce the days or hours of operation. We are asking for your help in the form of a donation, so we can keep the museum open as it is now, continue with the programs we’ve started and keep generating interest in the history of Leavenworth and the Upper Valley through our displays and programs, our Oral History Project, and continued annual dues from our members and business members.
If you are interested in helping us, please contact the museum at 509-548-0728 to make a donation.
